I have always found flowers fascinating. Flowers can come in so many different shapes, colors, sizes, and smells. The individuality of all the different species is incredible. Recently, I came across plant that had groups of small white flowers with long bright red filaments. These flowers don't fit the mold of a stereotypical flower. Even though it looks different than the norm it's still a natural beauty. Humans are also diverse creatures with individual characteristics. Our differences are what make us who we are and create a lovely bouquet of assorted flowers for the world to enjoy.
Can we allow a group of men or women to share a special bond in a story together, and will we be allowed to feel upset if we feel the original story is essentially changed if we replace the characters with the opposite gender? The resistance we may feel in placing men in “female roles”, can give us an insight into the paradigms at issue when we place women in what some may consider previously “men's roles”.
